Paris VFT – Week 1

things to do in paris - the LouvreI’ll start with an overview of Paris France and our list of six fun things to do with kids there!

Paris, France, has two nicknames: the City of Light and the City of Love. It is called the City of Light for two different reasons—because of its role in the Age of Enlightenment (Age of Reason) and because it was one of the first European Cities to have gas street lights. The nickname City of Love comes from the fact that each year millions of people come to Paris for the romantic charm of the city.

Paris is home to some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, art museums, and great food.  Paris is known for it’s pastries, and cafes!

Our virtual tour this week highlights our top picks to see and learn about in Paris!

  • The Louvre
  • The Eiffel Tower
  • Notre Dame Cathedral
  • Arc de Triomphe
  • The Paris Catacombs
  • Paris Bike Tours

You will learn a little about each of these places and things to do in  Paris.

The Catacombs of Paris is a collection of ossuaries, sites that serve as the final resting place for human skeletons that can be found underneath
the city of lights. Known officially as l’Ossuaire Municipal or Catacombes officiels, the Paris Catacombs is one of the most famous landmarks in
Paris.

things to do in Paris - the Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower

This week – The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is a lattice tower made of twisted iron that can be found in Champ de Mars, a large grassy field in Paris. The tower is named after
Gustave Eiffel, the engineer whose firm designed and erected the tower. The construction of the tower began in 1887 and ended in 1889 as the
main symbol for the 1889 World Fair, a celebration of the French Revolution.

Arc de Triomphe

This week – The Arc de Triomphe

Without a doubt, the Arc de Triomphe Paris is one of it’s most famous attractions. It stands at the western-most point of the Avenue des Champs Élysées.

The arc was commissioned by one of France’s most noteworthy historical figures, Napoleon Bonaparte. Sadly, Napoleon Bonaparte would never
get to see the completed monument since it was finished fifteen years after his death.
